In the Goal

In the 7 years I have shot Major League Soccer, I admit to a fascination with the folks guarding the net.  It is a lonely job with large swatches of time that go by while the action unfolds at the other end of the pitch.  Lots of stretching, staying warm, setting the defense, quarterbacking, and encouraging the troops in front of the keeper.  And then, in a blink of the eye, the goal keeper has to back peddle to the net and protect against the score and blood pressure goes from normal to nuclear.  Here is a five-and-a-half minute slide show I made of goal keepers over the years – many from Sporting Kansas City, and the Colorado Rapids where I have been lucky to have the chance to focus on Tim Howard at each home match.  Enjoy.
